On Tuesday, March 19th, Kane County will be hosting a free event, Google Insider Tips - New Leads Through Google My Business, a one and half hour program designed to help businesses and nonprofits navigate and utilize the services of Google My Business.
Nathan Misirian will unlock the secrets of using "Google My Business" - a free service that shows your local business in Maps and Searches. Starting in 2004, Google's service has evolved into a small ecosystem that direct drives local traffic but with very little explanation.

Call for Transportation Projects
CMAP is hosting a call for projects to receive transportation funding through one of three federal programs (STP, CMAQ, & TAP-L)
Before submitting an application, local sponsors should discuss their project with the appropriate Council of Mayors Subregional Council Planning Liaison. Contact information for PLs is available in the list of municipalities by regional council. For general questions about the programs, check the FAQ page.
Visit CMAP's call for transportation projects page to review application documents and program references. Applications are due on Friday, March 15th, 2019 by the end of the business day.

Next City is hosting a webinar with guest presenters Andi Crawford, Director of the Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement for Lansing, Michigan, and Michael Hammett, Chief Service Officer for the City of Phoenix, Arizona, on Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. eastern time.
Andi Crawford and Michael Hammett will share how citizen engagement became embedded in Lansing, Michigan, and Phoenix, Arizona, respectively. Through their leadership and close work with mayors, city agencies, local partners and community stakeholders, each was instrumental in changing the way their cities do business by making citizen engagement a core element in solving public problems. Coming from cities with different leadership structures, populations and demographics, Michael and Andi will share best practices and lessons learned so that other cities can replicate their success.

Panel: Creating Local Character
Tools to find and enhance community design
Save the date! The Chicago Metro Section of APA-IL will be hosting a panel discussion featuring speakers that have drafted design guidelines for communities, corridors, and districts. They'll share experiences and tips about engaging the public, using visual preference surveys, design examples, and other tools to find a shared visions for a community aesthetic. Planners will walk away with a set of tools to engage their commissions and the public in the discussion.
